Waiting and Watching

Dear Cathedral Family,
It’s only the first week of December, but already the holiday season feels in full swing. This can make it tough to hold on to the posture of waiting and watching that define Advent.
This Sunday, our Liturgy of the Word (the first half of worship) will be a modified and abbreviated form of the traditional Advent Lessons and Carols service, a distinctive piece of our Anglican tradition. It is designed to help you slow down and re-orient yourself from all of the push of things to do toward the vastly bigger picture of the works of God and the expectation of who and what is yet to come.
After worship, we will gather in the Chapter House for the first of our two annual parish meetings. This one is for the purpose of electing a vestry slate and a slate of delegates for diocesan convention. We will also hear updates on parish giving for 2025 and stewardship for 2026, as well as reports on termite repairs to our buildings and plans for our columbarium. There will also be a pickup breakfast provided by our wonderful team of cooks, led by Al Chow.
While we are in our meeting, our children and young people will gather in the church for their final rehearsal of the annual Christmas pageant, which will take place next Sunday morning at 9:30 a.m.
My prayer for us all is that in the days and weeks ahead we will find moments in each day to connect with the eternal things that are at the heart of this season.
See you Sunday.
Faithfully,
Beverly+
