Journey Together

Dear Cathedral Family,
As all of our students and their teachers and parents brave the first week of school, our prayers are with them! This Sunday we will say special prayers of blessing for the beginning of this new school year and distribute backpack tags that carry a reminder of our love and prayers for all our students.
Now that school is back in session, Sunday will also be the beginning of the new program year for our children’s Christian Formation. Sabrina Evans has been working hard since early in the year to transform our Sunday School space into the Atrium for Catechesis of the Good Shepherd. This Sunday is the first week of this outstanding long-standing curriculum using the Montessori method to bring children more deeply into the experience of our sacramental tradition. Everyone is invited to visit the Atrium open house during the hospitality time on Sunday. Please come and see what our children will be learning!
Over the past several weeks, we have learned how to maximize the seating area in our temporary worship space in the Chapter House, while at the same time becoming more comfortable with new traffic patterns for communion and movement into and out of the space. We now know that we can accommodate up to 200 people for worship in the Chapter House, and I hope that you will be among them!
While the repairs are going on in the nave and all our buildings late this summer and this fall, strengthening our bonds as Christian community is especially important. The closeness that comes with gathering in the Chapter House is a gift and a blessing: it helps us get to know each other better, and we are reminded that our identity comes not from “where we sit” but from who we are as sisters and brothers in Christ. We are in this journey of following Christ together, or we are not in it at all.
Please don’t wait until “everything is done” to return to church. You will have missed precious time with God’s people, your family in the household of God.
Faithfully,
Beverly+
