All Saints' Day
Dear Cathedral Family,
After you fall back to standard time this weekend, I hope that you will be rested and ready for the All Saints’ Celebration this Sunday. This celebration is our annual chance to sing the beloved hymns, hear the scripture readings of hope and promise, and lift up our prayers for those who have gone before us in the fullness of life in God’s love.
This Sunday’s celebrant and preacher will be our Dean Emeritus, The Very Reverend Johnny Cook, and I know that you will want to be present with him to recall the special bonds that unite us as the Cathedral Family. Our usual festive celebration at hospitality time will this year be postponed to Sunday, December 6, when we will celebrate our return to the nave after termite repairs.
December 6 will also be the Sunday of our annual meeting for elections and our stewardship in-gathering. Please be on the lookout for information about this year’s theme, “God’s Plenty,” which you will be hearing more about in the month ahead from this year’s chairs, John and Francie Ruzic.
This long weekend is one of the “thin places” in the year, when the seen and unseen realms of existence feel closest together, and when we are especially aware of the bonds that connect all of life in this world and the next. As Christians, we are reminded that we never walk through this life alone; we live and work in communion with each other—as the Cathedral Family, as the household of God throughout the world, as the as the creation loved and redeemed by the One who dwells in all. This All Saints’ Sunday is a “thin time” to give thanks for our life together and to commit ourselves to the life ahead.
Faithfully,
Beverly+
