"Be Ready"
Dear Cathedral Family,
The time change last weekend emphasizes the movement in seasons as the light wanes and the temperatures shift. The cycle of the liturgical year that guides our life together reflects these seasonal shifts in creation within its structures. As we come into the final three weeks of Ordinary Time and prepare for Advent and a “new year,” listen for the shift in our lessons from scripture and in our hymns. This is one way that our life together as the household of God prepares us for the changes of life and helps us “stay awake” and “be ready,” as this Sunday’s Gospel directs us.
One regular feature of this season is our annual stewardship campaign. This Sunday stewardship chairs John and Francie Ruzic will introduce our theme of “God’s Plenty” and give an overview of what lies ahead. You will be hearing more and receiving information throughout the month of November, prior to the ingathering on Sunday, December 6.
That will be an eventful day, as it will be our official return to the church following five months of exile in the Chapter House during termite and water damage repairs. That will also be the day of our annual parish meeting for the purpose of vestry and convention delegate elections. And, most significantly, this will be our day of celebration with fried oysters and libations. I know that all of you will want to be present. And I very much want to see you there!
This has been a long season of disruption in our life together, and I am thankful for your faithfulness, your patience, and your generosity and your prayers during the last several months. It is a privilege to serve with you all.
Faithfully,
Beverly+
