Rest and Renewal

Dear Cathedral Family,
I am glad to be home after my summer time away, and I am thankful for the presence and ministry of Fr. Tom Heard here with the Cathedral Family during my absence. Junior Wardens past and present, Lewis Golden and Bill Skinner, are doing an excellent job of overseeing the repair work on the church, for which we are all deeply grateful.
This Sunday will be our last day of worship in the nave before we move into the Chapter House for the duration of interior repair and restoration work in the church. The work of repair and stabilizing in the basement of the nave is now complete, and work has begun on the outside of the church and interior spaces throughout the campus. Next week we will move the piano, pew cushions and smaller furnishings, remaining furnishings will be secured and covered, and the installation of scaffolding will begin.
And our life and ministry together continue. Betty Coale Music Scholars are with us each Sunday in July, and preparations are ongoing for shared VBS with other area parishes July 26-28. Preparations for Operation Backpack have begun as well. You will find more information about these within this email and on our website.
The Summer Dean’s Read begins next Wednesday, with an introduction to our reading together of Augustine’s Confessions. We will meet in person in the Huger Meeting Room, as well as on Zoom.
My time of continuing education and vacation were refreshing and renewing for me, and I hope that all of you are experiencing times of summer rest and renewal as well. I look forward to our time of closer togetherness in worship and fellowship over the months ahead.
Faithfully,
Beverly+
