The Mission

Dear Cathedral Family,

This Sunday, September 22, at 7:43 a.m. CDT, we will experience the autumnal equinox. Even though the temperature may reach 90 degrees that day, it will be, officially, “fall” by the time you get to church.

And the events of fall will be happening: Sunday School for the kids, Children’s Choir after worship, and adult server information and training with Fr. Thomas Heard after church at the altar. Later in the afternoon, our teenagers will have an EYC “Hang” at the Bristers’ home to play pickle ball and generally BE together.

Later next week, Baylights at Beckwith will begin on Friday, and I hope many of you plan to be there. Christ Church Cathedral is sponsoring the hamburger cook-out on Friday evening, with some of our own talented guys manning the grills. No agendas except for live music, food, and fun for kids and adults, and it all supports the good work and beautiful spaces of our diocesan camp and conference center. I am thankful for our young families who support Beckwith, and especially Tray Hamil, who has offered to transport any youth who would like to go over for the fun and spend the night.

This week is a good time to consider how we live out Jesus’ teaching in our gospel lesson for this week: He sat down, called the twelve, and said to them, “Whoever wants to be first must be last of all and servant of all.” Then he took a little child and put it among them; and taking it in his arms, he said to them, “Whoever welcomes one such child in my name welcomes me, and whoever welcomes me welcomes not me but the one who sent me.”

This loving care for every child is the beating heart of our mission, the mission Jesus has given us in his name. How can you be a part of that way of living?

Faithfully,

Beverly+
