The Holy Week Journey

Dear Cathedral Family,
The progressively longer Gospel readings of the last few weeks have been a kind of spring training for reading the Passion Gospels of Holy Week. We will begin in earnest when we gather on Palm Sunday. After the short lesson from Matthew in the Liturgy of the Palms, we will move on to a dramatic reading of the Passion narrative from Matthew in the Liturgy of the Word.
The full transformative power of the Gospel accounts of Jesus’ journey to the Cross lies in actually reading them, paying attention to both the material details of what happened and to the divine purpose and spiritual force working through these events. Even if you are unable to be present this Sunday and Good Friday, I hope that you will take time this Holy Week to read the whole accounts as they appear in Matthew and in John.
Our journey through Holy Week with Jesus will continue in worship together every day. As you will see in this email and the emails you will receive daily this week, we will gather for prayer and Eucharist Monday through Wednesday at 5:15 p.m. in the church, and on Maundy Thursday at noon in the church and 5:30 p.m. (with foot washing) in the chapel. The Good Friday Liturgy will take place at noon in the church, as well.
As week look toward the glory of Easter on Saturday evening and next Sunday morning, I hope that you will deepen your experience through prayer, reading, and worship this week. This is the most precious and holy season in the life we share in Christ, and I look forward to walking through this time with you.
Faithfully,
Beverly+
