Deep into Lent

Dear Cathedral Family,
I am thankful for the service of our wonderful delegation to last weekend’s 55th annual diocesan convention in Pensacola Beach. We had a great time worshiping and learning together with friends from throughout the diocese during the plenary and workshop sessions gathered into the theme “Let There Be Light,” and we had fun socializing together and with friends old and new. You should be especially proud of our Convocation 1 youth representative, our own Walt Hamil. And our new Children’s and Family Formation Coordinator, Sabrina Evans, was there, too, as a delegate from St. Luke’s in Mobile.
Saturday morning, we woke to the news of military strikes in Iran, and our bishop began the morning session with timely and helpful prayers. In this post we will link you will find those prayers, along with letters issued by Presiding Bishop Sean Rowe, and the Anglican Archbishop of Jerusalem. We began our worship last Sunday at the Cathedral with The Supplication from the Book of Common Prayer (BCP 154). I hope that you find these prayers helpful aids in your own prayer for our country and our world at this time.
As we move more deeply into our Lenten journey, I hope that you are finding grounding, peace, and strength in practices of daily prayer and scripture reading. Please know that through daily emails and resources available on our website, we are offering support for keeping a holy Lent.
In Paul’s Letter to the Romans, as we will hear this Sunday, he shows how endurance, character, and ultimately hope emerge from suffering and struggle. As “the whole creation groans” toward the revealing of the fulness of God’s plan, we are called to prayer and service together in the Name of our Lord.
Faithfully,
Beverly+
