Dear Cathedral Family,

In the early mornings of this week there has been a hint of the cooling breezes that fall will bring, but as the days lengthen the intense heat of summer returns. The long continuation of Jesus’ discourse on the bread of the life during the August Sundays seems to have a similar tenacity—and a similar hope.

School has begun, and our congregational life has begun returning to the rhythms of the regular program year, but we will not be fully back in swing until the week after Labor Day, the official closing of the summer season. You have already received information about the musical programs for the upcoming year, and soon you will be receiving more information about fall opportunities for formation and service for all ages.

This Sunday at announcement time, we will be hearing from several of our young families about their involvement with our diocesan camp and conference center, Camp Beckwith. They will invite you to join them in the festivities of BayLights weekend at the end of September, especially the Friday evening cookout being sponsored by Christ Church Cathedral.

I am so very proud of the involvement of many of our young leaders in the life of our diocese, as part of diocesan agency boards and members of the commissions and committees that serve to lead our missional life together. As the Cathedral church of our diocese, Christ Church is aspiring to live up to its role in leadership and service, and I am thankful for the commitment of so many of you to that work.

I am thankful also for the excellent leadership and work of Elizabeth Gatter, Cathedral organist and choirmaster, in last weekend’s Diocesan Choir Festival, as well as the servant ministry of many of you as greeters and hosts throughout the day. This was capped off by the culminating Sunday of the Betty Coale Music Scholars program, another outward facing musical ministry that enriches the inner life of the Cathedral Family as well.

God has done great things for us, and we are glad indeed.

Faithfully,

Beverly+
