"Low Sunday"

Dear Cathedral Family,
Following last Sunday’s great Easter Day celebration, this first Sunday after Easter is traditionally known as “Low Sunday.” The “low” doesn’t refer to attendance, but to its place as the Octave Day of Easter—part of the feast, but “to a lesser degree.”
The much needed and appreciated rain last Sunday was also kind enough to hold off enough to allow our annual Easter Egg Hunt to take place in the garden. No Easter outfits were ruined in the process! Many thanks to Leigh Rendfrey, Margaret Andres, their families and the Fun Club for their good work in making this event happen. Lucy and Richard Wright were hard-working assistants to the Easter Bunny in preparing all those (750) candy-filled eggs! We are also thankful for the good work of Myles Garver (director), Kaylin Bales, Mollies Adams, and Children’s Program Coordinator Sabrina Evans for their wonderful work with the Cathedral Children who sang so beautifully on Sunday.
The work of preparation and support for the liturgies of Holy Week into Easter is a genuine labor of love shared by many. Saylor Wiley, Homer McClure, and the Flower Guild created a glorious tribute to the new life and beauty of the resurrection. Skip and Barbara Archer and the members of the Altar Guild worked overtime in setting and clearing for all our services. And always, the Cathedral staff—Provost Carolyn Jeffers, Melissa Hicks, Brenda Stanton, and Judy Jones—did the heavy lifting of providing bulletins, contacting lay ministers, and caring for the hundreds of details that go into this holy season.
Josh Coble survived his first Holy Week and Easter in fine style, and the Cathedral Choir, and the organ, sounded sublime. Always, I am thankful for the leadership and collegiality of The Reverend Thomas Heard and The Reverend Pratt Paterson. We have so much to be thankful for in the Cathedral Family!
There will be much more to celebrate in this Easter season, as we prepare for the Cathedral Celebration on Sunday, April 19, when our bishop will join us for confirmation, followed by a picnic lunch. Then on Sunday, April 26, our young people will take the lead in worship for Youth and Senior Sunday, when we will also recognize our graduating seniors and pray for their launch into the next exciting stages of life. The diocesan diaconate ordination will take place here at the Cathedral on Saturday, May 2, when three new deacons will be ordained for our diocese. Please be on the lookout for opportunities to serve in all of these upcoming celebrations.
I am looking forward to an inspiring Eastertide here at Christ Church Cathedral, and to serving with you in the season ahead.
Faithfully,
Beverly+
