Dear Cathedral Family,
The school year begins, and then suddenly it’s Labor Day Weekend. Here in the Cathedral Family, in early August our participation and attendance picks up after the summer vacation time, and then we have a lull before the Rally Day launch of our program year on Sunday, September 8. You might think students and families don’t need a break yet, but they do. One last breather before the “true” end of summer is always welcome.
I am tremendously thankful for the good work that has been happening to bring about a new structure for our Cathedral Youth Advisory Council (YAC). Lissa Watkins has led a wonderful group of parents and children, alongside Cathedral clergy and staff, in putting together a comprehensive calendar for the year with attention to the “four pillars” of faith life: formation, worship, fellowship, and service. Look for more information in our Rally Day roll-out.
These last weeks of August have been an energized time of planning and preparation for many of the ministries that form our life together, ways in which we become what James calls “doers of the word.” On this Labor Day weekend, I hope that we will all pause to give thanks for the work of others that supports the life we are privileged to live—and to remember, as James writes, that “every generous act of giving, with every perfect gift, is from above, coming down from the Father of lights.”
Faithfully,
Beverly+
