Summer at the Cathedral

Dear Cathedral Family,

Many of us will be coming and going now that summer is arriving, and I want to let you know about what will be going on here at the Cathedral during these summer months.

Construction for termite damage repair will begin in the second week of June and continue through the end of September.

  • Crawlspace work across the campus begins June 8, along with interior work in all spaces except the nave.

  • Exterior work for moisture incursion remediation begins on June 15.

  • Interior work on the nave begins July 6 and is scheduled to continue through September 25. Worship will move to the Chapter House during this time.

I will be taking time away for continuing education and vacation, beginning June 10 and returning July 6. Deacon Pratt Paterson will be taking vacation time away during June, as well. During the remaining Sundays of June, The Reverend Thomas Heard will preach and celebrate. On Sunday, July 5, our dean emeritus, The Very Reverend Johnny Cook, will preach and celebrate. I am deeply grateful for Fr. Heard’s ministry here at the Cathedral, and he will be available for any pastoral care needs during my time away. I am also tremendously thankful for the good work of former Junior Warden Lewis Golden, who will be overseeing the construction work on our spaces.

When I return in early July, we will move our worship space out of the nave and into the Chapter House for the duration of interior repair work in the nave. Those of you who were here during interior renovations following Hurricane Katrina will remember how we created our sacred space in the Chapter House during that time and kept our experience of sacramental life together as familiar as possible. For many of you this will be a new experience, and I look forward to journeying with you through this time of repair and renewal.

In times when our physical environment is in transition, we are reminded that the true Church is the gathered Body of Christ, and that He is present among us wherever we are. Please join me in praying for his peace, his blessings, and his guidance during this season in our life together.

Faithfully,

Beverly+
