Summer!

Dear Cathedral Family,

Over the next three Sundays, I will be taking some time away—first for a week of vacation time with my family and then for a pilgrimage to Iona, Scotland with the Shalem Institute. I will hold you in my heart and in my prayers, especially during my time on the Holy Island of Iona. And I appreciate your prayers for me, and for all pilgrims, during my travels.

Iona is a small island in the Inner Hebrides, off the west coast of Scotland, with great importance as the birthplace of Celtic Christianity in Scotland. St. Columba arrived there in 563 to establish Iona Abbey, which remains an active ecumenical Christian community that welcomes pilgrims from all over the world. It is a sacred place of great beauty, deep history, and profound quiet. I hope to have much to share with you when I return.

The Reverends Eric Zubler and Thomas Heard will be with you for services on May 26, which is Trinity Sunday, and June 2 and 9, the beginning of the long green season of Ordinary Time. Summer Sundays of VBS during Sunday school and Children’s Chapel will begin June 2 and continue through August.

I am thankful for your prayers and for your faithfulness in our life and ministry together during the summer season, and I am thankful for the good work of the Cathedral staff that makes my respite from parish duties possible.

The Lord bless you and keep you until I see you again later in June.

Faithfully,

Beverly+
