Returning

Dear Cathedral Family,

With the present beginnings of a new school year, our thoughts turn to a change of season. Not only do we long for relief from the excessive heat of recent weeks, but we are also ready to return to community connections and friendships after our summer breaks from routine. We are ready to move into new challenges and opportunities for growth.

Here at Christ Church Cathedral, we will mark the new school year with a blessing for our students at the beginning of Sunday’s worship service. Please help your school-aged students remember to bring their backpacks on Sunday, and we will pray for them (and all their teachers!) and present them with a special backpack tag to remind them of our love and support throughout the year ahead.

This Sunday will also bring to a close the summer season of the Betty Coale Music Scholars program. We will have a final Sunday of wonderful music from this year’s talented group of young people, and afterward they and their families will join us for a reception and the presentation of their scholarships by Harwell Coale. This wonderful program has brought new life and joy to our summer worship, and we are thankful to Harwell for his generosity in this loving tribute to his late wife Betty, and we are also thankful for the leadership and hard work of music director Elizabeth Bemis in making this dream a reality.

In our readings from scripture this Sunday we are reminded of God’s constant saving and sustaining spirit in the lives of God’s people through the ages. In life’s challenges—storms, seasons of difficulty, setbacks, and surprises—our eyes look to Jesus and our prayers go out for help in times of need. As we begin this new season together, we remember the Psalmist’s words: “Search for the Lord and his strength; continually seek his face.”

I look forward to being with you all this Sunday.

Faithfully,

Beverly+
