Dear Cathedral Family,
In this season after Pentecost we have entered what is being called our “post-pandemic summer.” This is a welcome time of reconnecting with family and friends, travelling, and relaxing and renewing our bodies, minds, and spirits after a trying eighteen months.
Here at Christ Church Cathedral, we have shifted gears to our summer mode of living as well. And at the same time, we have the opportunity to be involved in activities that re-engage us with each other and our world in ways we have all missed. We are returning to the altar rail to receive communion; we are singing more; we are exchanging smiles and hugs and catching up with each other. You will find in this email opportunities to signup as lay ministers and ushers, and those of you who wish to be part of returning to Sunday hospitality will have the opportunity to do that, as well.
Our Children and Youth Program Team is working on a “V.B.S. To Go” package for parents and grandparents and children to use according to their own schedules this summer. Also, please notice the Children’s Chapel program materials that are included in this email each week—these are adaptable for use at home, or where ever you may go this summer.
Out in the community, you will also find opportunities to connect and serve. This Saturday morning, the CCC Baptized for Life program will host a kick-off event with the MOB Pacers. Our friend Joe Simms from McCoy Outdoor will join us in the courtyard to talk about walking and proper shoe fit; there will be a friendly and shady three-mile walk, followed by refreshments and time to visit outside. All are welcome!
“Be Loved Mobile,” an Episcopal ministry in the Mobile community, has a plethora of outreach and service opportunities planned for later in June, about which you will find information in this email. The Cathedral is a drop-off site for their supply collection efforts, and we will be hosting one of their events that week. Please consider how you can be involved in caring for the needs of others on the “outside” and the margins of our community.
As you reconnect with loved ones and the wider world this summer, please stay connected in some of the many ways that are available with your Christ Church family. And please pray for our ministries in the season ahead.
Faithfully,
Beverly+
