"Low Sunday"

Dear Cathedral Family,

Following last Sunday’s great Easter Day celebration, this first Sunday after Easter is traditionally known as “Low Sunday.” The “low” doesn’t refer to attendance, but to its place as the Octave Day of Easter—part of the feast, but “to a lesser degree.”

This year there is much to celebrate on this occasion, as this Sunday we will welcome Dr. Joshua Coble as our new Cathedral Music Director. You can learn more about Josh in this email and on our website. Once you meet him and hear him play, you will understand why we are so very excited that he will be part of the Cathedral Family. I know that you will want to welcome Josh and let him know how much you appreciate and support his ministry among us.

This Sunday we will also be commissioning and sending out a group of dedicated Lay Eucharistic Visitors, some of whom will be receiving a communion kit from our altar each Sunday so that they can share our Lord’s gifts with those who are unable to join us in person. This is an important lay ministry in the church, and I am thankful for the folks who are willing to serve in this way.

There will be much more to celebrate in this Easter season, as we prepare for the diocesan diaconate ordination on Saturday, May 3 and the Cathedral Celebration on Sunday, May 4, when our bishop will join us for baptism, confirmation, and reception, followed by a picnic lunch.

I am looking forward to an inspiring Eastertide here at Christ Church Cathedral, and I look forward to serving with you in the season ahead.

Faithfully,

Beverly+
