Living Into Christ's Promises

Dear Cathedral Family,

This Sunday we welcome Elizabeth Bemis to the Cathedral Family as our Transition Organist and Music Director. You will find her biography in Sunday’s bulletin contained in this email. I know that you join me in thanksgiving for her willingness to share her gifts with us and to lead our music program into the upcoming season. Please offer your warm wishes and welcome, as well as your prayers, to her.

Next Sunday, the Reverend Eric Zubler and his family will join the Cathedral Family as Clergy Associate for Christian formation and pastoral care. Already we have begun planning for the upcoming year of ministry here at Christ Church Cathedral, and you will be learning more in the weeks ahead about the opportunities for service and formation that will be forthcoming.

As our children and teachers prepare to begin the new school year, and as our college students move to campus to begin their next chapter, we will all be praying for them, for their health and safety and for the best possible conditions for learning and growth over the year ahead. Thanks to your generosity, we have completed another successful year of Operation Backpack, making backpacks and school supplies available to young people in challenging situations through the agency of the Family Intervention Team of the Mobile Police Department. Each backpack has a tag letting the user know that our prayers go with them.

In our gospel reading for this Sunday, Jesus tells the crowd following him, “Whoever comes to me will never be hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty.” Whoever comes to Jesus will be received, welcomed, fed, loved, and cared for. As we look forward to the year ahead, not knowing the challenges it may bring, we join together in commitment to being the Body of Christ that lives into his promises.

Faithfully,

Beverly+
