Dear Cathedral Family,
This Sunday will be our 21st Annual Cathedral Celebration, with our bishop’s annual parochial visit for confirmation. Confirmation is grounded in baptism, the essential commitment that establishes our lives in Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior and binds us to Him and to one another and to the whole world in love. We will renew our Baptismal Covenant as we join with five youth and one adult who will be affirming their commitment to Christ in confirmation. Our bishop’s presence, prayers, and laying on of hands reminds us of our unity with the whole Church and with all followers of Jesus Christ. I hope that many of you will be present and that you can stay afterwards for lunch and time of fellowship together.
The annual celebration of our establishment as the cathedral church of our diocese is a reminder of the privilege and responsibility that we have to serve all the people of the Diocese of the Central Gulf Coast. On Saturday, May 2, we will exercise that ministry in hosting the ordination of three new deacons for our diocese. The service that day begins at 11:00 a.m., but the day will begin earlier as the ordinands and their families and presenters arrive for rehearsal and time together with the bishop. We need volunteers to serve as greeters that morning and helpers for light hospitality both that morning and after the service. Please see the sign-up sheets on the ministry table in the Chapter House and also online here.
On the Sunday in between, April 26, we will celebrate Youth and Senior Sunday. Our young people will fill most of the roles for ministry that day, and we will offer our high school graduates prayers and blessings for the next steps of their journey into life. Following worship, our young people will be heading to Beckwith for an afternoon of celebration for the new pool at our diocesan camp and conference center! For those of you who stay behind, that afternoon at 5 p.m. we will enjoy the final event of this season in our concert series, an organ recital featuring Joel Gregory, the organist and choirmaster of St. John’s Episcopal Church in Montgomery.
Spring is moving swiftly toward summer, and we have much to enjoy in our life together before Memorial Day comes. Please stay tuned for more information coming soon about the beginnings of our termite repair construction this summer. We will be on the move!
Faithfully,
Beverly+
