Preparing

Dear Cathedral Family,

As the long season after Pentecost draws to a close this Sunday and next, we turn our hearts and minds toward Advent and the new year to come in the life of the Church. Here at Christ Church Cathedral this liminal season will be our time for considering stewardship for the year ahead. This year we are being ably led by Hayley and Bragg Van Antwerp in exploring our theme, “Growing in Discipleship.” You will be hearing from various members and learning more in the weeks ahead.

Cathedral Staff and lay leaders are preparing for our shared ministry during Advent and Christmas. The Reverend Eric Zubler and Harwell Coale will be leading a special session this Sunday, following worship, called “Surviving the Holidays.” This time together over a meal will utilize materials from the GriefShare ministry that they have led over the last two years. You will also find information in this email about the Blue Christmas service that will be held in early December for those who find the holidays an emotionally challenging time.

Organist and Choirmaster Elizabeth Bemis, along with the Cathedral Singers and Choir and guest artists, are preparing a semi-staged performance of “Amahl and the Night Visitors,” as well as our annual Festival of Lessons and Carols. And they are also getting ready for glorious services on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, and the Sundays of Christmas season.

All of this, as well as the work of various guilds and committees and vestry and volunteers, is supported by the good work of Provost Carolyn Jeffers and her assistant Melissa Hicks, Finance Secretary Brenda Stanton, and Housekeeper Judy Jones. The work of this whole wonderful staff is made possible by the part of your discipleship that supports the ministries of Christ Church Cathedral.

Faithfully,

Beverly+
