Grow in Discipleship

Dear Cathedral Family,

This Sunday, the second Sunday of Advent, will be a time of looking forward—to the next steps of our journey together as disciples in this place and to the ultimate joy and peace to come in the fulfillment of the Kingdom of God.

In our worship service, at the time of the Peace our stewardship season will culminate in Giving Sunday, when all members of the Cathedral Family will be asked to consider how they will give in the year ahead. Following our worship, we will gather in the Chapter House for our parish meeting for the purpose of electing a class slate of new vestry members and a slate of diocesan convention delegates for the year ahead. In this email you will find more information about both of these important parts of our life together.

In the gospel reading from Matthew, we will hear John the Baptist’s call to repentance and living a new life reoriented toward the Way of Jesus. John proclaims that “the kingdom of heaven has come near.” It is possible now to be part of God’s kin-dom, faring forward through our lives toward greater fullness of life in God.

John’s call comes to each one of us, asking how we will grow in discipleship to our Lord in the year ahead. It is a call to life-changing encounter with the God who can transform the whole world.

Faithfully,

Beverly+
