Of course, we will still commission our Christian Formation teachers, our young people will find their Sunday School rooms, and the EYC will eat lunch together and talk about their upcoming activities. Acolytes and choir will be back in full swing, and our worship will be "bigger" than it has been during the quieter days of August. The most important thing that we will do this Sunday is be together, to be the Body of Christ, to praise God and give thanks for the blessings He has poured out upon us here at Christ Church Cathedral.
Our lessons for this Sunday remind us that it is essential for us to be disciplined in seeking the Wisdom that comes from God and in allowing ourselves to be transformed and guided by that Wisdom. In our Gospel lesson, Jesus tells his disciples that it is difficult to focus on the divine things that Wisdom knows; to do so, we must set aside our own views of what we should do and "take up our cross" and follow Him.
At a practical level, that means being disciplined in shaping our weekly and daily living around worship, scripture reading, and prayer. There is no better time to recommit ourselves to this kind of discipline than right now, at the beginning of this new program year. If you have fallen behind in reading the Bible or being regular in your prayer life, commit to picking your discipline up again. Above all, come to God's House to worship and to strengthen and focus yourself for the work God has called you to do!
See you Sunday!
