MUSIC

Sacred music, like the Biblical readings, must truly be a music set apart

and consecrated to prayerful and holy use by its ministers.

MUSIC MINISTRY

The history of this congregation spans nearly two centuries, and music has been a part of our worship for just as long. Christ Church has long been a place known for fine service music as well as musical outreach to the city of Mobile. These historic roles are at the foundation of our music ministry, and they inspire us; they point the way forward to the music of tomorrow.

Traditionally the music ministry of Christ Church Cathedral is comprised of three main ensembles - the Cathedral Choir, the Chamber Choir, and the Handbell Ensemble.  During this time of pandemic only our Handbell Ensemble is rehearsing.

At the heart of our ministry is the cathedral pipe organ. As an historic instrument with some pipes dating to 1907, the sounds of our organ span generations and have truly become the voice of our sacred space. The music presented in our services is in keeping with the Anglican choral tradition, but it also has an occasional twist, in keeping with our heritage as a church in the American South, with all of the diverse and colorful influences that brings. We are a program of tradition, a program that strives for excellence, and a program for tomorrow. Come and listen.

Music is a vital ministry of Christ Church Cathedral and is made possible by the generous pledges of members and friends of the Cathedral to its annual operating budget. Additional funding through Friends of Cathedral Music allows us to sustain a broader artistic and spiritual outreach to the greater Mobile community. We are thankful for these gifts that go above and beyond other support given to Christ Church.  Funds are solicited annually through a booklet that lists all of the concerts and special services held during the year.
