CATHEDRAL YOUTH

FOR YOUTH GRADES 6 THROUGH 12

Because we recognize the divine wisdom of childhood and adolescence, Christ Church Cathedral is a place where youth and adults walk side by side, companions on the journey of faith.  We strive to honor questions, avoid pat answers, and look together for the ways that God is at work in our lives. Our mission is to love and affirm all young people as children of God, to serve them as companions and guides, and to faithfully entrust their care to God. All are welcome here.

6TH-12TH SUNDAY MORNING GROUPS // SUNDAYS FROM 9:00 TO 9:45 AM

Youth meet in the EYC Room on the floor above the Chapter House.  Students have a snack, engage in lectio divina, discuss faith questions, and can simply be in the presence of God and one another.

CONFIRMATION

At Christ Church Cathedral youth are invited to prepare for confirmation in the 8th grade, or anytime thereafter.   We are in our second year of moving up, so confirmation class will be held again in 2020-2021.  If you have a child who is in the 8th grade or older who would like to be confirmed, please contact Carolyn Jeffers

ACOLYTES

The word acolyte is derived from the Greek word akolouthos meaning companion, follower, attendant, or helper.  The ministry has its roots in Hebrew Scriptures where the prophet Samuel is seen assisting Eli.  The first written historical record of the term acolyte appears in a letter from Pope Cornelius to the Bishop of Antioch in 251 CE.  Christ Church Cathedral encourages young people to take on the role serving as crucifers, torch bearers, and flag and banner bearers.  They do many jobs before, during and after the service.  For information on serving as an acolytes at Christ Church Cathedral click here.

If you would like to serve on an acolyte team, sign up here or contact Carolyn Jeffers

REGISTRATION FOR SUNDAY SCHOOL AND EVENTS

Parents are asked to register their children and youth if they will take part in any of our offerings (not just Sunday School). This helps the staff plan well, and provides the information our staff and volunteers need. A link to 2019-20 registration is coming soon.

As part of our KEY Conference series, Winterlight brings in the new year for Kanuga Empowered Youth. Take this chance to get away from the distractions of everyday life and spend time meeting new friends, hanging out with old ones, singing, dancing, ringing in the New Year and exploring your thoughts and beliefs. Participants come together in an inclusive fellowship that embodies the vibrancy of the national Episcopal Church. Join us at Kanuga for fellowship, fun, and exploration of the sprit as we discover how to be leaders in building beloved community together.
