Truly I tell you, unless you change and become like children,

you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.

Whoever becomes humble like this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.

Whoever welcomes one such child in my name welcomes me.

Matthew 18:3-5

At Christ Church Cathedral we respect and nurture each child’s innate spirituality and understanding of God’s profound love for them, tailoring experiences in worship, education, and fellowship to the individual developmental needs of the child.  Formation of the child begins before birth, and continues throughout a child’s life. It is our role as their faith community to help support and be with our children along the way.

Parents are asked to register their children if they will take part in any of our offerings (not just Sunday School). This helps the children's and youth team plan well, and provides the information our staff and volunteers need to be responsive to your child. Here is the link to registration.

Caring for babies and young children

Children of any age are welcome at our services.  Parents who prefer to take their children to the nursery will find a bright, cheerful space staffed by experienced, loving child care workers who have received Safeguarding God's Children training and a nursery coordinator who also has First Aid training.

The nursery is open at 9:00 a.m. when Christian formation classes are in session and at 9:30 a.m. otherwise.

Where to find us

The nursery is located in the Brantley House which is adjacent to the Servery.  When you approach the Chapter House from the garden, enter by the glass doors on the garden porch.  Take the second door to the right and proceed down the stairs.  Please ask an usher for directions.

More details

A brochure provides even more detail about the nursery. Copies are available on the Ministry Table in the Chapter House vestibule, or you may download a PDF here.

Gospel Light: Baby Beginnings is the curriculum Christ Church Cathedral uses for our toddlers and early preschool children. They are introduced to the love of God through pictures and songs while getting to wiggle and run.  We let them play while they learn how to apply God's love to their daily lives.

Spark Activate Faith is a comprehensive, Bible-based Sunday School curriculum designed for children age 3 to grade 5.  Spark Lectionary follows the lessons we hear in church and Children’s Chapel—helping our children get more out of church and Sunday School.  Lessons this year include the wedding banquet, the greatest commandment, and the parable of the talents.  The curriculum is on-line and accessible to teachers and parents.

Each Sunday during the 10:00 a.m. service children ages 3 to grade 3 may attend Children's Chapel.  After the opening hymn children are invited to follow their crucifer to the chapel for an age-appropriate worship.   Worship is lead by trained adults who are assisted by parents and youth volunteers.  The children return to church at the time of the peace. Sunday Eucharist.

Children in grades 1, 2, and 3 are invited to attend Acolyte Training in the fall to learn to serve as Children's Chapel Crucifers.  These children vest and process both at the beginning and at the end of the service.  They lead the children from the church to the chapel for Children's Chapel where they serve as acolyte for that service.  The Children's Chapel Crucifer returns with the children at the time of the Peace, and they are seated with the older acolytes.

If you would like to serve on an acolyte team, sign up here or contact Carolyn Jeffers
