Sacred music, like the Biblical readings, must truly be a music set apart

and consecrated to prayerful and holy use by its ministers.

The history of this congregation spans nearly two centuries, and music has been a part of our worship for just as long. Christ Church has long been a place known for fine service music as well as musical outreach to the city of Mobile. These historic roles are at the foundation of our music ministry, and they inspire us; they point the way forward to the music of tomorrow. The music ministry of Christ Church Cathedral is comprised of three main ensembles - the Cathedral Choir, the Chamber Choir, and the Handbell Ensemble. These groups are made up of talented musicians, both professional and volunteer, and they make music for Sunday services, Diocesan events, and concerts throughout the year. Also at the heart of our ministry is the cathedral pipe organ. As an historic instrument with some pipes dating to 1907, the sounds of our organ span generations and have truly become the voice of our sacred space. The music presented in our services is in keeping with the Anglican choral tradition, but it also has an occasional twist, in keeping with our heritage as a church in the American South, with all of the diverse and colorful influences that brings. We are a program of tradition, a program that strives for excellence, and a program for tomorrow. Come and listen; come and sing.

Christ Church Cathedral Choir | Rehearsals, Wednesdays 6:30-8:00 p.m. |

The Cathedral Choir is an SATB adult choir of professional and talented volunteer singers. Singers of all voice types are encouraged to audition. In addition to singing at the 10:00 am Sunday service, the Cathedral Choir offers several concerts throughout the year. Please contact the Director of Music or the Choir Director to schedule an audition.

The Cathedral Chamber Choir is an octet of professional vocalists that sing both with the Cathedral Choir and as a separate ensemble featured in the service and at concerts. This ensemble focuses mainly on early music. Membership in the chamber choir is by audition only, requires advanced sight-reading skills,  and formal musical training.  Current openings in this ensemble can be found HERE. Contact the Director of Music or the Choir Director to schedule an audition.

Handbell ensemble| Rehearsals Wednesdays, 5:30-6:30 p.m. |

The Handbell ensemble is made up of volunteer ringers and plays at the Sunday morning service several times per year. For more information about this ensemble, contact the Director of Music.

Christ Church Cathedral brings guest musicians to perform during the Sunday worship.

Christopher W. Powell, Cathedral Organist and Director of Music

Music is a vital ministry of Christ Church Cathedral and is made possible by the generous pledges of members and friends of the Cathedral to its annual operating budget. Additional funding through Friends of Cathedral Music allows us to sustain a broader artistic and spiritual outreach to the greater Mobile community. We are thankful for these gifts that go above and beyond other support given to Christ Church.  Funds are solicited annually through a booklet that lists all of the concerts and special services held during the year.
