Belonging

There are so many ways to get involved at Christ Church.

You are welcome to do as much or as little as you wish.

WE WANT TO MEET YOU

Our hope is that you will more fully experience the presence of God in your life as you worship with us.  You are invited to participate fully in the life of this community: worship, study, participate in a variety of opportunities to serve others.

Newcomer gatherings:

If you are new to Christ Church Cathedral, we are delighted that you have chosen to continue your spiritual journey with us and hope that you have found a spiritual home here. Twice a year, we hold an informal gathering with our Dean, Beverly Gibson, to give you the opportunity to meet her and some of the leadership, to learn more about our parish, and to ask any questions you may have.   Dates for these gatherings and registration links can be found on this page.

Hospitality:

Another way to get acquainted in an informal setting is to join us weekly following the service for a time of hospitality in the Chapter House.

Tell us about yourself: here is an online version of the visitor card you may have seen in the pew racks if you've attended a service in our church.

GETTING INVOLVED

There are many ways to get involved at Christ Church. You are welcome to do as much or as little as you wish. Just know that there are supper clubs, book groups, volunteer and service opportunities, an altar guild, a flower guild, and much more. We need a name here, our _________ for membership, will be happy to explore the possibilities with you.

Anyone who is a baptized Christian, from any denomination, may be considered a member of Christ Church Cathedral simply by telling us that you would like to join our fellowship. You maintain your membership by joining us in regular prayer and service, and by receiving Holy Communion, the mystical sacrament of Christ’s body and blood that opens us more completely to God’s presence and unites us to all human beings. Confirmation (or reception, if appropriate) provides a way to affirm our faith publicly and assists in guiding our fellowship in the Way of Christ.

LEARNING MORE ABOUT BEING AN EPISCOPALIAN

There is a five-week Inquirers Class during Lent each year. If you've been thinking about joining Christ Church Cathedral, this class can be helpful to you. (Long-time Episcopalians often take the course as a refresher.)  It's an opportunity for you to ask questions about the Episcopal way of being a Christian, meet others who are considering joining this church, and be introduced to staff and programs of Christ Church. Read more here.

Holy Baptism and Confirmation:

If you would like to be baptized (or have your child baptized), you may contact Carolyn Jeffers in the Cathedral office about scheduling baptism. You can read more about baptism here.

In the Episcopal Church, confirmation is the rite during which adults or teenagers make a mature public affirmation of the promises made on their behalf when they were baptized as babies or very young children. Adult candidates for confirmation are prepared by a member of our clergy staff during the Inquirers Class; teenagers are prepared through our youth program. While confirmation is a joyful occasion and we are delighted if you desire to be confirmed, please know that confirmation is not a requirement for joining Christ Church Cathedral nor for receiving Holy Communion.

ALREADY AN EPISCOPALIAN?

Letters of transfer:

In the Episcopal Church, you officially become a member of a particular parish when you have your previous parish send a 'letter of transfer' to Christ Church Cathedral. It is important for you to know that you are welcome at everything Christ Church has to offer, no matter what-a letter of transfer is not required. If you consider yourself a member, you're a member!  If you do wish to provide a letter of transfer, however, please ask your current or former parish to send your letter to Carolyn Jeffers at Christ Church Cathedral, 115 S. Conception Street, Mobile, Alabama  36602. If you are coming from a tradition other than the Episcopal Church (or you are new to church altogether), just send Carolyn an email letting her know you would like to join Christ Church Cathedral.
