This summer should be a time for all of us to renew and energize through time with family and recreation-travel for some of us, life by the water for some of us, reading and other hobbies for some of us. In this Messenger I have included my reading list, along with some notes, just so you can see the kinds of things that are intriguing to me right now. You might find something of interest to you there, too.
Life here at Christ Church Cathedral goes on, of course. Construction of our new "old" steeple continues, and once some general dates are known about its completion and installation, details will be passed along to everyone. Vacation Bible School will take place in early June, and our youth have some summertime activities planned. Organ concerts have been scheduled for two Sunday afternoons, and there is information enclosed about the ongoing Cathedral Organ Fund.
The staff will be gearing down from the busy program year to allow space and time for reflecting on the previous year and imagining and beginning planning for the program year ahead. Most of us will be taking some time away at different times during the summer. We will, however, be keeping regular office hours, as we have found that there is relatively little completely "down" time for any business in the contemporary world.
On Sundays, you will see fewer acolytes, and the choir will be somewhat reduced in number, using more soloists and ensembles through the summer months. Our worship will continue, nevertheless, to be joyful and spirit-filled. Summer is not really a time to take a break from worship! Please remember that our regular expenses continue through the summer, as well, and if you are away this summer, please do remember to continue with your pledge.
On the other side of summer lies a time of promise and excitement and continued growth for the Cathedral Family. I hope these summer months are a time of quiet and empowering preparation for that.
